have any questions! Here is my wonderful family that our work supports!
This is a video put togerther by Turner Media. At the time of this video we were working for William Hamilton who applied for and received a grant managed by Land of Sky Regional Council. The grant funds came from the Stimulus Act and filtered through the US Forest Service. The grant objective was to encourage use of local forest products and provide stimulus to local businesses in Western North Carolina. Many thanks to William and all involved in providing regular work for serveral people. The video is several interviews and some action shots showing the mill and tractor in operation. The lumber was for a small barn which was built almost entirely of eastern white pine. We milled framing lumber, siding, and shingles for this project. The tractor has a forestry winch which was used to drag logs out of the small white pine stand we logged and to move waste and finished products. The opening of the video shows the sawmill shed we built at Smith Farms next to Appalachian Designs Studio. We milled everything for the shed except the reclaimed roof trusses. We installed white pine shingles which are untreated and have held pretty good so far.
